On Saturday, April 25, 2009 Bard College at Simon’s Rock will host a Discovery Day event, free and open to families and prospective students interested in learning more about the College. As many as 45 prospective students and their families are expected to visit campus to attend classes, sample the dining hall fare, interview with Admission counselors, and learn more about the Simon’s Rock. Prospective students and their families will receive a tour of the campus, in addition to getting an in-depth look at day-to-day life inside and outside of the classroom.
Discovery Day, the College’s formal event for prospective students, represents an alternative to the typical single-family campus visit. Simon’s Rock offers four Discovery Days during each Admission cycle, giving prospects and their families two weekday and two weekend options for visiting the campus each semester.
The Admission Office has refined the Discovery Day schedule over the past several years to address the frequently asked questions of prospective students and their parents. While the visiting students speak with current students, learn more about the academic program, and attend sample classes, prospective parents have the opportunity to attend workshops about life on campus during panel discussions with Student Life and Academic Affairs staff members. The panel will address common concerns, particularly the resources available to Simon’s Rock students and the opportunities available to them after graduation.
Brunch will be served following the panel discussions and tours. The afternoon is dedicated to admission interviews for applicants, with Admission Office staff, supplemented by faculty and other College staff in order to speak with all of the prospective students. Families can also meet with the Financial Aid Office to discuss financing options, and to learn about navigating the financial aid process.
