Managed Printing

As of the fall 2010 semester, Bard College at Simon's Rock is implementing the PaperCut print management system. In order to reduce the paper and toner waste from the many printed pages that are never retrieved from our shared printers, printing will now be a 2-step process:
  • First, send your print to a central queue on the print server. Every document is tagged with the Simon's Rock user name and password of the person who submits the job.
  • Your job will be available to print at a print release station for 18 hours from the time you submit it.
  • Next, to actually get a print out, go to any of the Print Release Stations around campus, and login to see a list of your print jobs. Release your prints to the adjacent printer. Initially, there will be release stations in the Library, Fisher, Student Union, DAC and Pibly.

The PaperCut server tracks the number of sheets each person prints, and every student will get an initial allotment of 400 pages per semester. We wish to provide as many pages as necessary to support student academics, so contact ITS if you run low on your page quota. However, we'd also like everyone to be more cognizant of the fact that printing is not a "free" service in either a monetary or environmental sense.

To encourage double-sided printing, we have set up the printers to make it easy to select double-sided prints. Also, you can print both sides of a double-sided page for the same cost as one singe-sided page. You may log in to PaperCut to track your print usage if you are on-campus. Just visit
