Family Weekend 2010
Family Weekend at Bard College at Simon’s Rock is Friday, October 29 through Sunday, October 31, 2010. The weekend is an opportunity for students to share their experience of the College with family and friends. Visitors can spend time with students in their dorms, share meals in the dining hall, and arrange meetings with students’ academic advisors, professors, and residence directors. With autumn in the Berkshires as a backdrop, family and friends will have the opportunity to attend workshops, alumni panels, and cultural events on campus and in the community.
On Friday, visitors may attend open classes; Convocation, a ceremony which honors and recognizes scholarship award recipients; and a welcome reception that will introduce families to Simon’s Rock staff and faculty members.
On Saturday, families who have arranged to do so will visit with professors, advisors, and residence directors. All are invited to attend panel discussions with current students, staff, and alumni; check out the Alumni Library Book Sale and Sponsor-a-Book event; and meet Provost and Vice President Mary Marcy, and other Simon’s Rock administrators, during the Provost’s Reception. Cap off the night by attending a performance of the Simon’s Rock Jazz Ensemble.
On Sunday, the Alumni Library Book Sale and Sponsor-a-Book event continues, as do ongoing art exhibitions in the Atrium Gallery in the Alumni Library and the Liebowitz Art Gallery. Families can also enjoy a violin and piano recital in the Kellogg Music Center, venture on a morning hike around one of the Berkshires' most scenic mountain trails, and root for their team of choice in the annual faculty and alumni vs. staff and student soccer game.
Please register here. A schedule of events is available here. To keep up-to-date as events are added, visit the Family Weekend webpage. Contact Karen Anderson, associate director of college relations, with questions or for additional information.
