FACULTY FORUM AT SIMON'S ROCK COLLEGE OF BARD: THE FAR WEST AND THE DECAY OF DANDYISM

Ryan Carey gives a talk on December 7

GREAT BARRINGTON, MA — Simon’s Rock College faculty member Ryan Carey will discuss The Far West and The Decay of Dandyism: Mountain Men, Drinking, Fighting, Hunting, Feasting, Indian Maidens, Carousing, Miscegenation, Savage Natives, Race Wars, Imperialism, the Rise of Capitalism, Class Warfare and Good, Honest Work as part of a Faculty Forum. The lecture will take place on Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. in Blodgett House.

Ryan Carey earned his BA degree from Dartmouth College and his PhD from the University of Texas. His work examines the role of place in history, and in pursuit of that interest he did significant graduate work in geography and environmental studies while completing his degree in American History.

In addition to survey courses, he has taught Environmental History and the History of the American West. He has received research fellowships from the Huntington Library, Harvard University and the American Heritage Center at the University of Wyoming.
