Broad range of musical genres in four more December concerts at Simon's Rock College of Bard
Bach On the Wrong Instruments, December 10; followed by a concert of works by Mozart, Schumann, Darius Milhaud and James Hook; a concert of Broadway and Jazz, and finally, Britten's Ceremony of Carols
GREAT BARRINGTON, MA — Simon's Rock students and faculty will perform in four more concerts in December, presenting music from a variety of genres, including music of Bach, one of chamber music, then Broadway and Jazz, and finally, a concert of carols for chorus and harp. All concerts are free and open to the public.
On Sunday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. in the Kellogg Music Center, faculty members Larry Wallach and John Myers, colleagues who have co-organized many concerts but rarely have the opportunity to perform together, will present Bach On The Wrong Instruments. About this concert, Wallach says: "After 20 years of working together in the Music Program, John and I finally get to play together! We are appearing as partners in crime, daring to present Bach's music on instruments he never requested. Why are we perpetuating this sin against authenticity? Because its so much fun!"
On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Simon's Rock Music Program will present a concert by members of the chamber music class. A group of students, faculty, and staff will perform works for clarinet, strings, and piano. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Kellogg Music Center.
The program will include the clarinet quartet of Bernard Crusell, the Suite for Clarinet, Violin, and Piano by Darius Milhaud; excerpts from Mozart's Clarinet Trio; a trio by James Hook; a sonatina by Schubert for violin and piano; and Three Fantasy Pieces for clarinet and piano by Schumann. Performers include Liam Slivka, violin; Oren Vinogradov, clarinet; Joan Goodkind, viola; Larry Wallach, piano; and guest artist Jessica Lee, cello. For further information on this concert, call 528-7212.
On Friday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m., the Simon's Rock Music Program presents a concert of Broadway, classical and Jazz favorites performed by members of the vocal performance class and other members of the campus community, all accompanied by Hilda Banks Shapiro.
