Dr. Mary B. Marcy, provost and vice president of Bard College at Simon’s Rock was recently announced as the president-elect of Dominican University of California. Marcy will become the ninth president of the University when she assumes her new duties on July 1, 2011.
Marcy became provost of Simon’s Rock in 2004. During her tenure, the College solidified its prominence as a national model of excellence in early college liberal arts education. Leon Botstein, president of Bard College, praised Marcy’s work, "As a leader, educator, colleague, and advocate of innovation and rigor in undergraduate education, Marcy earned the respect, affection, and admiration of Simon’s Rock and the entire Bard College community."
President Botstein and Emily H. Fisher, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Bard College and chair of the Board of Overseers of Simon's Rock met with the Simon’s Rock community March 27 to discuss the future leadership of Bard College at Simon's Rock.
“I’ve had a wonderful seven years working with Mary,” Fisher told attendees. “You know I am going to miss her.”
“Mary’s achievement is terrific,” Botstein added, “We are sorry to see her go.”
President Botstein told the audience he was carefully reviewing the options for filling the vacancy opened by Marcy’s departure and anticipated further conversations with the Simon's Rock community through the process.
