Mayfest, a weekend long end-of-semester campus celebration, is one of the most memorable traditions at Bard College at Simon’s Rock. This year, on May 1, 2010, Simon’s Rock alumni will migrate Mayfest off campus and celebrate the event in fourteen cities, nationwide. While students on campus will mark the end of the year with bands and fun during their Mayfest celebration, alumni Mayfest events will focus on connecting with friends old and new, building philanthropic support for the Fund for Simon’s Rock and brainstorming names for the soon-to-be launched new alumni community.
Led and hosted by committed alumni across the country, the parties are so far slated to take place in Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Los Angles, Minneapolis, Ann Arbor, Kansas City, New Hampshire, New York City, Westchester County and Seattle. Gatherings are also being planned in Boston, Washington D.C. and Western Massachusetts.
The parties will vary from family friendly barbecues and picnics to beer gardens for young urbanites. “The alumni Mayfest events are a great way for alumni to connect with old friends and meet other alums in their area,” Rich Montone, manager of the Annual Fund explains. Additionally, “They are events that should generate two very important things: a name for the new online alumni community through brainstorm sessions and contributions to the Fund for Simon’s Rock.”
Montone predicts that the number of cities and parties will expand as alumni invitations circulate in April. “Any alum can host a party as long as they have a computer and access to the internet,” he said. Using the internet, alums will be able to connect with other Mayfest events via social networking venues and provide a secure space to make an online contribution, which provide critical support to the College’s scholarship funds. Alums interested in hosting a Mayfest party should contact Rich or Cheryl.
