Chris Coggins and I wanted to make you aware of a special opportunity that will take place next Thursday, April 14, on campus. At 4:30 p.m. in Blodgett, Stephan Wackwitz will read from his memoir An Invisible Country, which meditates on the silence surrounding the fact that his grandfather had served as a Lutheran minister in a town ten kilometers from Auschwitz in the decade before it became the notorious death camp. It's a book that explores the problems of history and memory, and the moral evasion that often undermines both. Wackwitz is an acclaimed author and director of the Goethe Institut in New York. The reading is free and open to the public and there will be a chance for Q & A as well.
