Simon's Rock Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Improvisation Workshop, directed by faculty member John Myers, will play a wide range of jazz standards by Ellington, Parker, and others, and an original composition by John Myers, "Primed for a Lucky Day" in 13/8 meter.
The concert will feature many guest artists: Faculty member and vocalist William Dunbar will perform a Brazilian piece by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Karen Lee, violin, and faculty member Larry Wallach, piano, will play "Blues," the jazz-inspired second movement of Maurice Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Piano. Alumnus Frank Sabatini, a former Jazz Ensemble member, returns to play trombone with the Ensemble.
