Title of talk: "Expatriates in Nicaragua: A Desire to Own in the “Next Best Place”
Abigail Foulds is a doctoral candidate in Geography at the University of Kentucky. Her dissertation addresses the impacts of Global North foreigners buying properties in the colonial city of Granada, Nicaragua. She has also examined the role of expatriates in developing tourist economies. Her research interests include tourism, travel literature, transnational migration, development, globalization, urban geography, and feminist geographies. Ms Foulds earned her BA at Bard College at Simon's Rock in 2000 in Geography and Cross-Cultural Relations. She earned her MA in Geography in 2005 from the University of Kentucky. She currently lives in Pittsburgh and has lived in Nicaragua, Thailand and Ukraine.
