Adeline MasquelierAnthropologist Adeline Masquelier will discuss her research on spirit possession, gender, the body, place, and sexuality in Islamic communities of Niger. Dr. Masquelier is a professor of anthropology at Tulane University, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. She is the author of Prayer Has Spoiled Everything: Possession, Power, and Identity in an Islamic Town of Niger (2001, Duke University Press), Women and Islamic Revival in a West African Town (2009, Indiana University Press), and numerous other publications. Since January 2008, she has served as the Executive editor of the Journal of Religion in Africa.
