On behalf of the Simon's Rock Women in the Sciences Club, I am very glad to present Jane S. Burke as a speaker for the WITS lecture series. Jane has a long-standing relationship with Simon's Rock, and will speak about about promoting STEM to girls from preschool onwards and the role that Simon's Rock students can play in this.

Jane is a founder of the Flying Cloud Institute, which "seeks to promote creative thinking, problem solving, and learning for children from kindergarten through high school focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), visual and performing arts." One of Flying Cloud's programs is the Young Women in Science program, which offers girls aged 9 to 18 with the opportunity to explore sciences, in a laboratory setting, with women who are experts in their fields.
Other Flying Cloud programs focus on public school enrichment, environmental science, and bringing together science and art. Their website is at http://www.flyingcloudinstitute.org/.
A balanced array of snacks will be provided, including vegetables as well as concentrated sources of sugar.
