STAR invites you to our fifth lecture of this semester featuring Erin O'Brien, Assistant Professor of Political Science at UMass Boston. Please join us this Wednesday, April 14th at 7pm in the Lecture Center for her talk entitled "Representation Plus: Congressmen's Substantive Representation of Women's Interests as More Women Enter the U.S. House of Representatives"

Erin O’Brien is also Faculty Affiliate in Women’s Studies and the McCormack Graduate School of Policy Studies at UMass Boston. She is the author of The Politics of Identity: Solidarity Building among America’s Working Poor (State University of New York Press, 2008) and co-editor of Diversity in Contemporary American Politics and Government (Longman, 2009). She is the past President of the Southern Political Science Women’s Caucus, co-program chair of the 2009 New England Political Science Association Annual Meeting, and recipient, along with co-author Jason MacDonald, of the 2008 Sophonisba Breckinridge Award for best paper presented on gender-related topics presented at the Midwest Political Science Association’s annual meeting. Her research focuses on the politics of poverty and U.S. social welfare policy, diversity and public policy, and collective action among low-income communities.

Please bring money, Professor O'Brien will be selling and signing copies of her newest book after the lecture. The talk is open to the outside community.
