Artist's Statement:
The installation I've been working on for the past year is about difference and my experience as the other in China. Through polychromatic ceramic figures and food I hope to exemplify the dichotomy between America and China both physically and culturally. The figures in the two respective scenes are marked by differences in size, color, position, activity and intent. With this body of work I attempt to establish a sense of discomfort while simultaneously showcasing the pieces themselves. The juxtaposition of the strange and the familiar help frame the question, who, or what, is on display?
