Art Installation at the Daniel Arts Center: Home, Otherness & Memory
by Visiting Faculty Iroh (Adis) Anaele Diala
When: Friday, October 24 — Friday, November 21
Where: Daniel Arts Center / Lower Lobby
Adis comes to us from the Center for Transcultural Research and Media Practice at the Dublin Institute of Technology. He will be lecturing on the "Nigerian Family and Community Formations in Ireland" on November 13th at 6:00pm in the Clark Auditorium. Adis's talk and installation piece examine the migration of Nigerian families to Ireland and its outcomes in Nigerian identity.
New walls enclose the downstairs exhibition space at the Daniel Arts Center into an installation entitled "Family Frames" in which Adis has re-created a living room with wallpaper, family photos, furniture, and everyday sounds in a home. The photographs are accompanied by texts illuminating a piece of the personal histories of these migrant families.
The other part of the installation which hangs on the outer walls is called "Defacement" and consists of outline drawings of faces connected together by the real and material web of familial networks.
I hope everyone has a chance to view this unique installation which will be on view until November 21st.
