Born into a family of musicians, Anne Legêne studied cello with Jean Decroos at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Netherlands, her native country. She conducts the orchestra at Bard College at Simon's Rock in Great Barrington, MA, and teaches orchestra to grade 4 through High School at the Hawthorne Valley School in Ghent, NY. At this school she also coordinates of the After School Music Program, which provides private and group music lessons to about 80 students. She co-founded and for several years co-directed "Summer Sinfonia", a two-week summer camp for young string players. She is a sought after cello teacher, teaching private lessons at Simon's Rock College, Hawthorne Valley, and her home studio.
Anne Legêne performs mostly chamber music in the Berkshires and Columbia County with many of the region's fine musicians, and often, as today, with her husband, pianist and harpsichordist Larry Wallach. She specializes in music from the baroque era which she plays on gut strings with a baroque bow. She was a member of the baroque orchestra "Foundling" in Providence, RI. She is currently also studying the viola da gamba with Lucy Bardo and Jane Hershey. As a viol player she is a member of "Les Inégales", a trio with Christine Gevert, harpsichord, and Rodrigo Tarrazza, baroque flute. In the summer she teaches at the Early Music Week at World Fellowship Center near Conway, NH.
