Joel Pitchon, Violin
Active as a concertmaster, soloist, and chamber musician, violinist Joel Pitchon has received acclaim as a versatile performer with nationally and internationally renowned ensembles.
Mr. Pitchon received his BA and MA in Music from The Juilliard School, where he studied with both Oscar Shumsky and Joseph Fuchs. He has served as the concertmaster of numerous orchestras, including the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra (Spain), the Jupiter Symphony, Musica Aeterna, New York Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, the Virginia Symphony, the Greenwich Symphony, the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, the New Zealand Symphony, and the Mid-Atlantic Chamber Orchestra. He is currently the concertmaster of the EOS Chamber Orchestra in New York City with whom his performance of Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat was called "superb" by The New York Times. In addition, he has participated in many concerts in the U.S. and abroad with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
Also active in chamber music, Mr. Pitchon works extensively in smaller ensembles. He was a founding member of the both the Medici String Quartet (U.S.) and the Wave Hill Trio, which was the resident ensemble of the Toscanini estate in Riverdale, New York. He has recently performed with the Boston based Walden Ensemble and played at the Monadnock and Martha's Vineyard chamber music festivals. He was also a member of the Kinor String Quartet and the Greenwich Chamber Players. He is currently a member of the
Forster Trio and performs frequently in the Northampton Mass. area as a member of the Smith College faculty.
Mr. Pitchon has served as a soloist with the Barcelona Symphony, EOS Chamber Orchestra, Mid-Atlantic Chamber Orchestra, New York Virtuosi Orchestra, Stamford Symphony, and Fairfield Chamber Orchestra, to name a few. He has also appeared in numerous radio and television broadcasts and has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Vox Cum Laude, Musical Heritage Society, and Columbia Masterworks and has been featured in STRAD magazine.
Mr. Pitchon is an Associate Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
