Stockbridge artist Terry Wise was first trained in textile design before she came to painting and it shows.  Not only do patterned surfaces find their way into her work but often they are the subject matter themselves in her rich still-lives and interior views.  They may be painted in, block printed on, or layered in hand printed or found papers, creating a textured, multi-colored base.  Wise considers her painting to offer a playful realism in that she lets the color, texture, and patterns take on their own life and infuse vibrancy to the subject.
