Director of Multicultural Affairs

Bard College at Simon's Rock seeks a candidate for the new position of Director of Multicultural Affairs.

Bard College at Simon's Rock is the nation's only four-year residential college of the liberal arts and sciences specifically designed to provide bright, highly motivated students with the opportunity to begin college after the tenth or eleventh grade. Students who successfully complete the requirements receive the Associates of Arts (A.A.) degree after two years of study, and the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree after four. The student population numbers 400, 85% of whom live on campus. Bard College at Simon's Rock is committed to the development of the whole student and to fostering an increasingly diverse and inclusive campus culture.

Reporting to the Dean of New Students, the Director of Multicultural Affairs will provide leadership within the Simon’s Rock community to plan and implement programs to support cultural diversity. The Director will work closely with the Win Student Resource Commons, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, faculty and other colleagues to promote cross-cultural sensitivity and explore issues of diversity, personal identity, leadership development, and multicultural education.  The Director will advise various student organizations to facilitate positive student interaction, and serve on College committees as appropriate.

The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, and leadership, organizational, and planning capabilities. Demonstrated knowledge and competency in identity development and student development theories are encouraged. Professional and personal commitment to inclusion, diversity and empowerment are essential. Master’s degree or substantial years of relevant experience required; PhD preferred.
