Student Health Insurance

Summary of School Health Insurance: Consolidated Health Plans

All college students in Massachusetts must have health insurance before entering college as set forth in M.G.L.C. 15A; 114.6 CMR 3.03. Any student entering Simons Rock College whose family does not have health insurance must purchase the college's health plan.

All Simons Rock students who live on campus are required to carry the college's insurance during the school year, which is provided by Consolidated Health Plans. A complete brochure of the Student Accident & Sickness Insurance Program is provided to each student in their admission packet. Information is also available from their web site: www.consolidatedhealthplan.com.

Students enrolled with the school insurance have coverage that lasts for one year, starting in mid August. During the school year, students that are referred from Health Services can be seen by local physicians and specialists, should the need arise. Please refer to the CHP brochure for specific benefits and exclusions. Generally, CHP will cover 100% on each claim, up to $500, and 80% above that, to a total of $1500. Coverage for claims not referred by Health Services (ie during summer or break periods) is 80%, as specified in the CHP brochure. As this policy is for illnesses and accidents, certain procedures are not covered, such as routine physical exams, and dental and eye exams (unless an emergency). Psychotropic medications are not covered. Under this policy, injuries sustained during the play or practice of intercollegiate sports are not covered.

If students do have private insurance coverage, please provide Health Services with this information. In the event of emergency services, such as hospital and ER visits, both CHP and private insurance can be billed, which will reduce out of pocket costs.
