New Gallery Dedicated to Two Faculty Emeriti: Arthur Hillman and William Jackson
Bard College at Simon’s Rock is pleased to announce the opening of a new art gallery to be named in honor of two recently retired faculty in the arts, Arthur Hillman and William Jackson. The dedication of the Hillman-Jackson Gallery will coincide with an exhibition devoted entirely to both Hillman and Jackson’s work. The gallery opening, dedication and artists reception will take place on Friday, October 28th at 6pm in the Hillman-Jackson Gallery within the Daniel Arts Center.
Arthur Hillman is a photographer, printmaker and designer who has been exhibiting his prints for nearly fifty years. He joined the faculty at Simon’s Rock in 1974. He received his B.F.A. from the Philadelphia College of Art and his M.F.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Before coming to Simon’s Rock, Hillman taught at the Massachusetts College of Art. Hillman’s silver gelatin photographs, digital prints, photo silk screen prints, and artist’s books are included in collections throughout the country. William Jackson is a sculptor, painter, lighting designer and video producer. After receiving his B.A. from the University of New Hampshire and his M.F.A. from Indiana University he joined the faculty at Simon’s Rock in 1972. Jackson’s sculptures and paintings have been shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout the country and his lighting designs have been selected for several historic lighting restoration projects. Jackson’s documentary video work includes a series of portraits of regional sculptors and projects for Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and Chesterwood.
