Awards and Prizes
At commencement, the faculty of each of the college’s four divisions recognizes outstanding achievement by graduating students in Arts; Languages and Literature; Science, Mathematics, and Computing; Social Studies; and Interdivisional Studies. Graduating students make the following awards at commencement:
Ruth B. Ide “Good Sport” Award
Established by the B.A. class of 1972, this award is given annually by the senior class to a staff member recognized as a “Good Sport.” Ruth B. Ide served as an administrative secretary at Simon’s Rock from 1968 to 1986. She still resides in Great Barrington.
Richard C. Drumm Award
Established by the B.A. graduation class of 2001 in honor of a member of the Physical Plant staff who worked on the Simon’s Rock property for forty-two years, this award is given annually by the senior class to a member of the faculty or staff for long-term dedication to the values and philosophy of the College.
Dr. John A. Glover Award for Excellence in Teaching
Established in 1995 by the Glover family, this award honors the memory of an outstanding scholar, teacher, mentor, author, and editor. It is given each year to a Simon’s Rock faculty member, chosen by the senior class, in recognition of his/her knowledge of subject, love of learning, excellence in teaching, and dedication to students.
Newcomer’s Award
Established by the B.A. graduation class of 1993 and voted on by the senior class, this annual award honors a full-time staff or faculty member who has shown outstanding service or abilities as a new member of the Simon’s Rock community.
