Meet the Faculty

I wanted to teach! I interviewed, the college liked me, I liked the college. After I was hired, the late Eileen Handelman, one of the founding faculty members, told me that the thought about me was "he's crazy but he's OUR kind of crazy!" That's what made me want to stay.

I think the Chemistry Cheer. I was explaining bonding in my chemistry class and, using my hands/arms, I first put my fists together to indicate a sigma bond, then I put my arms together parallel up and down and then front and back to indicate pi bonds. I said "remember, it's sigma-pi-pi" and one of the students said "it's the chemistry cheer!" It stuck and I've used it for years.
